three characters:
He ,
She and
Time.
This is a sad and ironic story about how two people met in emigration in New York -
He and She, who are connected by a common past.
He is an intellectual who yearns for the Soviet Union,
She is the daughter of parents who left the USSR, and has grown up in America. The intrigue of their relationship is so twisted that the viewer laughs and cries, never fully understanding how this story will end.
Wolf Moikhelevich Goldiner has been living in Brighton for 20 years, but still does not speak English. He sits by the window, looks out the window and listens to old Soviet songs. By a strange coincidence, a pretty woman appears in his unkempt apartment, who speaks English brilliantly... She turns out to be the daughter of emigrants, and what's more, from the same city as him. And then a chain of events begins that brings the audience first to Homeric laughter, and then to tears...
The conflict of the situation lies in the discrepancy between the usual Soviet thinking and the real, concrete situation that emigrants face in America.
The play poses questions to the audience that go far beyond the "comedy and a bit of melodrama". Who are we? Are we responsible for our past? This story happened in Brighton, but it could have happened anywhere...
