Why do I exist...

Performance based on poems by David Samoilov

"Our show is the fruit of collective creativity. Actors and musicians came with their favorite poems. As the show was born, some poems left, some took their place. The original list included twenty-five songs, in the final version there were sixteen. “Why do I exist...” is a mosaic of songs, poems, music and prose. Unexpected instrumental fragments appeared. They arose not according to the logic of the show, but rather emotionally." From an interview with Slava Kaganovich .

On January 21 and 22, the Theatre Studio “By The Way” presents the musical and poetic performance “Why do I exist...”

The performance is based on the poetry of David Samoilov and songs based on his poems.

The performance features:

Elina Bampi , G. Danilevsky, Gennady Boldetsky , V. Kaganovich, Val Kanevsky , Marina Karmanova , Michael Kleinerman, E. Polyak, P. Senchenkov, Galina Shogan .

The author of the idea and head of the studio, Vyacheslav Kaganovich, told me about the creation of the play, rehearsals and the “personal moments” of the characters.

Letter from son

David Samoilov, Alexander Davydov

Dear Vyacheslav, I looked.

I really liked it, you are great. To be honest, I didn't even expect it. I am not a theatre person at all, I rarely go to Moscow theatres, only when invited. Performances of both the best and not the best of our theatres are always a solemn, pompous event, where the actors "create art", and the audience comes "to enjoy art". With you, unprofessionalism becomes an advantage: there is no sense of distance from the audience, it is more like a heartfelt conversation with them, from which the actors themselves enjoy no less than the audience.

I liked both the selection of poems (songs) and the composition. The poems were read with understanding, unlike professional readers who, with rare exceptions, focus more on external effects.

They sang/played "Vanyushenka-Dushenka" very well. I liked the guitarists. The violinist was good, he played not in a concert style, but a little in the spirit of the Jewish spilmans, from whom, by the way, Menuhin studied. But the most important thing is that the performance was staged and played with love. In short, it is an absolute success.

Yours, Alexander Davydov
